Most people believe that scarcity leads to an abundance of innovative thinking. I can attest to some extent, but it doesn’t always prove to be true in every situation. What happens when ingenuity is the scare resource?
It’s dangerous to think that innovators will continue to feed innovation based solely on the premises of the “lack thereof”. What “feeds” the innovator to contibute their innovatively driven talents? What is the motivator? And when the motivation is scarce..then what? The chain is essentially broken.
It’s 2011 (almost 2012) and ingenuity is scarce. That is a fact. Yes, technology is advancing..rapidly. There are new products being produced each and every day…but scarcity…is that the reason why? I think not. Necessity. It’s completely necessary to produce. The economy is failing, the cost of living is increasing, and job security…well it’s just not too secure.
We continue to produce the same things in massive quantities. I mean really, how many different type of tablets can you generate from each manufacturer?— Apple iPad, Samsung Galazy, Sony Tablet, Amazon Kindle, etc. How many reality TV shows can you create based off of the same exact situation or circumstance?— Real Housewives of Orange County, Jersey, NY, Atlanta, Beverly Hills, and Miami, or what about Basketball Wives, Football Wives, and now Baseball Wives…really. I can’t.
People want the “easy way out” and honestly, there is no “easy way out”. We continue to massively reproduce what seems to be working, and I guess that’s ok for now…I mean “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, right? That’s what “they” say..but I say, if it’s not broken, why not improve it? Why not make it better? faster? more efficent? more effective? I’m tired of seeing the same ideas being played out through different avenues. I’m tired of seeing people become successful off an insipid idea…an idea that someone else created. If “borrowing” someone else’s initiative works for you, great. But don’t borrow it, take it. Transform it. Make it yours. Because, honestly, I hate borrowing…I’m all for keeps. #foodforthought
